Ted Newton - Tennessee Rhythm / Walkin' Down The Road 7'' Single (1964)

This is one out of total two 7" singles released by Ted Newton (and his Tennessee Rhythm Boys) published by Salem in 1964, the other one being "Save Me The Label/Shackles On My Heart" on Bellwood Records in 1963. Both originate from Virginia. I've never heard "Shackles On My Heart", but "Save Me The Label" can be heard on several compilations like Rockin' Hillbilly Vol. 3, Rock N' Roll Drinkers & Sinners(Spotify) and Shelby County Country 1948 - 1974, and of course someone's uploaded it to YouTube. A ravishing example of crippling alcoholism turned into light-hearted entertainment. Unfortunately these are rather low quality, and if you got a copy of the original 7" record you'd like to sell or upload you could always get in touch.

There's another obscure country artist under the same name, apparently called Ted J. Newton, who released a few singles too. I have no idea if it's the same guy or not, but he released under "New" and "Fig" Records in Nashville. Those are more love ballads with titles such as "Just Call Me Lonesome", "It's Natural" and "Knowing How To Love Someone". I'd steer away from those records if you're into the hillbilly-cajun-rock-feel of the Ted Newton below.

If you got any additional info about Ted Newton & His Tennessee Rhythm Boys feel free to post it. I know literally squat besides what's posted.

WE GOT TENNESSEE RHYTHM THIS A-WAY

LYRICS

Ted Newton - Tennessee Rhythm

We got Tennessee rhythm
we get right there in with 'em
if it's from Tennessee then it's okay
Some folk like the rhythm and blues
but they always play it wearing shoes
We got Tennessee rhythm this a-way

Now don't you be mistaken
with the music we are makin'
once you're in then you can't get away
Come on in with us and sing
we're gonna make the rafters ring
We got Tennessee rhythm this a-way

Now if you like this rhythm
I'll tell you how to get some
just loosen up and don't you be afraid
Just stomp your feet and clap your hands
and slide on into Memphis land
'cause we got Tennessee rhythm this a-way

We got Tennessee rhythm
we get right there in with 'em
if it's from Tennessee then it's okay
Some folk play the rhythm and blues
but they always play it wearing shoes
We got Tennessee rhythm this a-way

Ted Newton - Walkin' Down The Road

Well I'm walkin' down the road
and I ain't got a dollar
I'm lookin' for my baby and another fella
she left me last night 'cus I was asleep
I woke up this morning feeling mighty mean

Well I know she had something else on her mind
'cause I ain't had a kiss in a long, long time
I'm gonna find her and that man
I got an ice cold blackjack in my right hand

Well I'm walkin' down the road
things are going through my head
I wanna pump that fella full of lead
I can't stand the thoughts of her being with another
put him down with my right pick him up with the other

Well I'm walkin' down the road
and I've just seen my honey
Standing in the station
but something's mighty funny
I'm gonna run or get skinned alive
'cus my mother-in-law's standing by her side

Well I'm walking down the road
going back the other way
I should've stayed in bed today
Take heed to my story fellas if you can
if you gotta lose your baby try to lose her to a man
